Wisdom Teeth Removal
Your wisdom teeth are the last set of permanent teeth that erupt on all four corners of the upper and lower jaws. They generally come in when a person is in their late teens or early twenties. Sometimes, these teeth may not erupt properly and may cause potential problems for other teeth in the mouth and your overall dental health. This mainly happens because they are the last teeth to erupt and there may not be enough room in the mouth for them. This can lead to a condition known as tooth impaction, wherein the tooth does not erupt fully above the gum line. Such a condition can cause tenderness and swelling, and can damage the nearby teeth if not addressed in time. The removal of wisdom teeth is advised in such cases.
At Pompano Family Dental, we offer comfortable wisdom teeth extraction services. We make use of local anesthesia and sedation to ensure that the procedure is comfortable and painless for you.
The procedure of extracting a wisdom tooth generally begins examining the position of the tooth in the mouth. An X-Ray may be taken if the tooth is not properly visible or has not erupted fully. Gauging the position of the tooth helps us understand the best way to extract it. After this, local anesthesia is administered and the tooth is carefully pulled out of the mouth with the use of dental instruments. A cut may need to be made in the gum line to access the tooth. Sometimes, the tooth is broken into pieces and the pieces are removed individually to aid easier extraction. Once the tooth has been pulled out, the area is cleaned and flushed and a gauze pad is placed to control bleeding. We then give you instructions for post-op care and may prescribe antibiotics and pain killers to control infection and pain.
